Wine of the week; 2008 Lang & Reed North Coast Cabernet Franc
by Stefan Blicker 2010, 07/13/10
Cabernet franc and truffles go quite well together, as I found out eating leftovers when we got home. Truffles are seductive and earthy, cabernet franc is typically somewhat dusty, earthy and a touch herbal. Hands down, Lang & Reeds North Coast bottling is most affordable and lip-smackingly delicious cabernet franc on the shelves. For a mere $22 you get dark plums, loads of blue/purple stone fruits, spicy vanilla, herbs ... imagine a big handful of rosemary, lavender, sage, etc. toasting away on the grill and you get the idea. Smooth, ripe and beautiful wine that is an unabashed crowd-pleaser in my book. Get some!
